Well, here we are. If it’s on the internet, it must be official. We’re moving to Africa. Yep, Africa. A-F-R-I-C-AAHHHHH! That’s me screaming because I can’t believe it’s finally happening and I can’t believe it’s actually happening and HOLY COW what are we doing!
I’m starting this blog as a place to share our journey over the next year as we prepare to go, as well as a place to document the crazy life we are going to have when we get there.
But I’ve gotten ahead of myself. “What,” you may be asking, “will you be doing in Africa?” and “Why the heck are you moving your whole family there?” These are excellent questions that I hope to answer in the coming weeks and months as I share more about our journey to this point. The short answer is we will be living and working at Rift Valley Academy as dorm parents. RVA is a boarding school for kids whose parents are working all over the continent of Africa. We’ll be house parents for a group of these kiddos during the school terms. As for why we’re taking this crazy leap, that’s a pretty multi-faceted question. In the simplest terms, we want to serve Jesus however, whenever, and wherever he asks. This is an incredible opportunity for us to serve God in a way that we feel like he’s uniquely equipped us. (Let me pause to clarify that, yes, we have wrestled through the risks, the sacrifices, and the realities of living in a less developed part of the world, but the benefits far outweigh the risks for us. What a rich experience for our family!)
Stay tuned for a front row seat on this wild ride. The Millers are on the move!
